One of my favorite songs is Fight the Blues by 宇多田ヒカル (Utada Hikaru). It is the first song on her latest Japanese album, Heart Station. I like this song a lot because it reminds me of when I visited Japan in summer in 2008. Utada Hikaru is probably my favorite Japanese artists, overall. Unlike most famous Japanese artists who release a new single (of varying quality) every few weeks at their sparsest, she delays the release of her music until she is sure it is satisfactory. Although this means that she releases half as much music as comparable artists do in that time, it ensures that the singles released are of the utmost quality. This explains the immense popularity her music has amongst the Japanese public.

Ah Utada Hikaru is great! Sadly, I only know her because of Kingdom Hearts, but still, I loved the songs in there in えいご and in にほんご. Her singing style is a bit different from other Japanese pop artists (much less high pitched).

ReplyDeleteOnce again Allison was right about my taste in music being a mixture of you and Connie. Even though I still lean to rock music, I still listen to Utada Hikaru because it would be a great shame not to.
